Welcome to Ripple By Rik β a place where motivations, scientific inquisitiveness, and music come together to make a difference in people's lives. This is my journey β a celebration of learning, giving, and growing β one ripple at a time. Here, every small act of kindness, every shared note of music, and every spark of curiosity creates ripples that reach far beyond what we can see.
A curious mind with a kind heart
I'm a student, pianist, robotics enthusiast, nature lover and unapologetic history enthusiast who believes that even the smallest act of kindness can create ripples of change positively impacting people's lives.
I've always been curious about the world β how it was shaped, how it works, and how we can make it better. My love for prehistoric flora and fauna, ancient civilizations, and the evolution of the world are my foundations to avenues of discovery. whyThis led me to enroll in and successfully completed both AP World History and AP European History within my freshman year. To me, history isn't just about a list of dates; it's about people , evolution, and stories that echo through time.
I have always been drawn to building from assembling complex LEGO sets to designing Python and R programs to develop practical real-world applications. LEGO taught me at an early age that meaningful creations take shape block by block, with patience, structure, and vision. That mindset now guides my work in developing programs that enhance financial literacy through strategic analysis and stronger communication channels. Over time, I began to see a parallel in biology: just as structures rise brick by brick, life itself unfolds cell by cell, each unit purposeful and interconnected with others. This realization deepened my fascination with biology and shaped me into an avid student of the subject. Studying biology has not only strengthened my analytical thinking but also transformed how I see the world, revealing the intricate systems, resilience, and design that underpin both life and the supporting solutions we build.
Where sound becomes strength and melody becomes medicine
My connection with music deepened during the COVID-19 lockdown, when isolation touched families everywhere β including mine. My grandmother, whom I lovingly call Dida, slipped into depression from being alone in her hometown of Kolkata. Thousands of miles away, I couldn't hug her, all I could was reach her through music.
So, I began playing piano for her over WhatsApp video calls, filling her evenings with melodies she loved. One day, I played Pete Seeger's "We Shall Overcome," and for the first time in weeks, she smiled and sang along. That moment changed me. I realized the healing power of music β its ability to reach hearts even when distance separates us.
Later, while working with the Calcutta Social Project (CSP), an organization that empowers children from underprivileged communities in Kolkata, I carried that lesson forward β playing for the CSP children on their birthdays and special occasions. Their laughter and joy remind me of Dida β and of how music connects us all.
Every act of kindness can start a wave
In 2023, I began volunteering with CSP. Using my birthday gift money, I was able to buy 60 school backpacks so CSP children could walk into class with pride.
But I didn't stop there. I began teaching math and science online every Sunday morning β waking early to open Google Meet, excited to see their smiling faces and eager questions. Those sessions became my favorite part of the week β a place where curiosity crosses continents and learning connects hearts. Each lesson reminded me that education isn't just about subject knowledge; it's about seeing possibility in every child.

Using technology to nurture empathy and mental health
As the proud leader of my school's Robotics Team, I see technology as a language of care. My curiosity and aptitude led me to successfully complete the FinTech program my school established in partnership with the fintech leader Fiserv.
I am also engaged in a project exploring how AI and data science can help detect early signs of mental distress in students, proving that innovation can be deeply human. Technology isn't just about circuits and code β it's about creating tools that help us understand and support each other better.
Where curiosity meets conservation
When I'm not coding, composing, or reading about history, you'll find me outdoors β visiting national parks, observing nature, or volunteering as a Junior Ranger. Nature keeps me grounded and reminds me that every living thing, no matter how small, plays a role in keeping balance.
That's what Ripple By Rik is all about β balance, purpose, and connection. Just as every ripple in a pond spreads outward, every small action we take can create waves of positive change in the world around us.
Because every ripple matters
Every wave begins with one ripple β one person who chooses to care, give, and grow. Through Ripple By Rik, I want to show that age or distance doesn't limit impact. Every idea, every act of kindness, every note of music can travel farther than we imagine.
If my story inspires even one more person to start theirs β that's my ripple.
Creating small ripples that reach far beyond sight. That's the mission. That's the purpose. That's what drives every project, every lesson, every note played, and every life touched through this journey.
The bridge between two worlds
When we came to the U.S. as graduate students, we carried with us memories of growing up in India β modest schools, rigid uniforms, structured routines. Watching Rik experience an entirely different kind of education here has been eye-opening.
He walks through colorful classrooms, where students are free to express themselves β in how they dress, how they think, and how they ask questions. He moves from one teacher's room to another, learning not just subjects but independence, curiosity, and collaboration.
As parents, seeing this environment nurturing his empathy, intellect, and creativity has been deeply fulfilling. Perhaps that's what Ripple By Rik truly represents β not just Rik's journey, but the bridge between the world we came from and the one he is shaping, one small ripple at a time.
